Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media also a speaker who is Canadian. She is the co-founder of Feminist Frequency the website which provides commentary and videos on portrayals of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, critic, and award-winning feminist for more than 10 years. Feminist Frequency an online platform designed to provide education on gender roles within the world of pop culture, is operated by Sarkeesian. Dispelling stereotypes of women is the main goals of her organization. But, she also seeks to bring attention to problems like discrimination and harassment of women online. The holder of a master's degree in political and social thought from York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public presenter and has presented keynote speeches at TEDxWomen's Women XOXO Festival and the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. From an early age she was captivated by questions of gender identity as well as feminist thought. While still at school in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency Website. A woman who was ambitious planned to create a web-series to study gender representation in video games. Then, she found herself as the victim of a harassment online campaign. But the harassment did not dissuade her. It only strengthened her reputation as a feminist journalist. Her notable contributions to the feminist field have been recognized by numerous awards.
